Boyd's OODA loop says observe, orient, decide, act. Tom describes what happens when a transformation project is driven by a chosen product or a fixed date, which turns it into Decide, Act, Observe, Oops. The fix is old and well documented in frameworks like TOGAF. Ask senior stakeholders what they want first and involve them early, because they are usually surprised and pleased to be asked.
